If Earth Had Rings
First off, they would be really pretty to look at. They would also dominate the sky in both night and day at exactly the same place as they would never rise nor set. And at night you would see the Earth’s shadow swing across the rings, like in the 4th photo here.
However, life would be very different on Earth if this were the case. Nocturnal animals would have a hard time being nocturnal, as the light reflecting from the rings would illuminate the night.
Because we are closer to the Sun than Saturn is, the rings would be more rocky than ice, making them less bright but still pretty bright. In fact, you would see far less stars at night (living anywhere other than the equator or the arctic circle) because of the light pollution and not to mention ruin most meteor showers because of that.
During the day the rings would block sunlight in certain regions of the planet creating wild weather cycles and effecting plant life as well. So basically, they would be definitely pretty to look at but they would also make a whole lot of things screwy.

All I want to know is how Ptomley would have accounted for this

Top five for cursing, top five for courteousness. Louisiana, mother fuckers :P
…the top five ‘least likely to curse’ kind of surprises me, because I feel like I swear a lot…
Louisiana for most courteous and most likely to curse. You have no idea how accurate this is. XD We all curse like sailors but we’ll be the nicest damn sailors you’ll ever meet. ;)

HEY B5/FANDOM-Y PEOPLE—as someone who has never been to a con before and is a little nervous, I’m wondering if those of you who have some experience in this area have any advice on things to bring to the Phoenix Comic Con. I’ve got the basics down (ie, every fandom t-shirt I own) and weather appropriate clothing, ect, but I’m wondering if there’s that thing that you never think you need until you get there that I should consider packing? Thanks so much!!
obligatory question mark?
Stay hydrated, find places to sit and be away from the crowds (especially if you’re like me and get anxious if you get stuck in them). Also wear your most supportive shoes. You will be walking your butt off.
As for other stuff- don’t make yourself crazy trying to See All the Things. If you get to there the night before- register then (it saves time and effort), and then go over the panels for a day.
Don’t pack in too many and try to pay attention to where they are located in relation to each other (this counts for Dragon*Con as it’s so spread out, I’m not as familiar with Comic*Con though). You’ll need time for getting there.
Panels with actors will fill up the quickest/be the most crowded. Choose wisely and know that you might not get in if you get in line too late/ there’s too many people.
Don’t forget to schedule food time, potty breaks and shopping time (or days). Usually the last day of the con is good for deals but you’ll have less choice of merchandise. In the end- it’s totally okay to go back to your hotel room early in the evening and get some rest. It helps fight off Con-crud.
Thanks so much—this is all super helpful!! Especially the last bit-I’m horrible about trying to do everything and getting exhausted. I don’t mind you ‘butting in’ at all; I tagged it specifically to get people whom I may not know to chime in. I hope you don’t mind me reblogging again, but I’m sure some of the other noobs like me will find this helpful!
Hehe, I wonder if Pat Tallman will mind signing my Lyra figurine…thanks!!
